Now, I'm pretty sure I was able to open files with drag-and-drop into ALL my programs when I first got this little laptop, but at some point I seemed to have lost the ability.
A quick search on Google told me the solution:
Windows 8 has tighten[ed] its security more than the previous versions of Windows.
In order to allow drag & drop without any restriction. You must disable UAC completely BUT doing so will break Metro Apps. So it's your choice.
To fully disable UAC, use regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Change EnableLUA from 1 to 0
I had to reboot, but when I did, I was back in the sweet, sweet land of easily opening files. 🙂
AND I could move files around in the Program Files folder without being annoyed by security prompts. Double-win!
